Dear Pennies & Pens,
In this post, K Penny: Lights by Joohoney Album Review, I review Joohoney’s 1st solo album, Lights. Lights was released on May 22, 2023.
Lights is an absolutely phenomenal album. Although it took me some time to get used to it, I truly love this album. Joohoney mixed so many different genres and styles that it was a bit overwhelming at first but after a while it truly grew on me. Now, I can’t stop listening to it.

With just six songs, Lights may seem short but each song tells its own story. Starting with Hype Energy, a song that blends traditional Korean instruments with modern beats – it’s definitely an original rap song. Then there’s Voice – it’s got this swagged out chant and it’s just a VIBE.
Next is Freedom – the title track. Joohoney goes from crooner to gangsta rapper in a matter of seconds. It’s such a powerful song because it showcases his ability to rap and sing equally. After that is Evolution – a song that combines R&B with rock. I couldn’t stand this song at first but some kind of way, it became my favorite.

Then there’s Monologue, a song that combines Joohoney’s monotone rap with GSoul’s buttery vocals. Oooh and that jazzy beat, how could I forget that jazzy beat?! Miles would be so proud. Lastly, there’s Don’t Worry, Be Happy, a song that is so positive and sweet. It’s the light at the end of the tunnel.
In the vlog below, I review the album while listening to the songs. I am trying out a new album review format (although YouTube is gonna flag the video). I thought it would be cool to play the songs as I review the album so that you (Pennies & Pens) can listen to the songs with me. Kinda like a bootleg reaction video.
Anyway, check out the vlog below. It’s a fun vlog and I had a blast shooting it.
