Dear Pennies & Pens,
In this post, Pen’s Rhythm Nation: Home Again by New Edition, I talk about New Edition’s 1996 album, Home Again. This album marks the first time they came together as a six member group.
Originally created in 1978, New Edition consisted of Ricky Bell, Michael Bivins, Ronnie Devoe, Ralph Tresvant, and Bobby Brown. Johnny Gill joined the group in 1987 as Bobby Brown had departed the group to launch a successful solo career.
New Edition’s name comes from the idea that they are the new edition of The Jackson 5. New Edition is absolutely one of the most iconic groups of all time. They are the blueprint for the modern boy band.
Pen’s Rhythm Nation: Home Again New Edition’s Iconic 1996 Comeback Album
The entire idea of a boy band started with The Jackson 5 and New Edition. Before these groups, the boy band did not exist as male groups consisted of grown men. Like The Temptations, Smokey Robinson and The Miracles, and The Four Tops.
Moving right along, in the vlog below, I talk about Home Again by New Edition. I adore this album because it’s how I discovered New Edition. As a millennial, I didn’t get to grow up on their classics like Mr. Telephone Man, Candy Girl, and If It Isn’t Love.
However, my Gen X cousin put me onto Home Again and so it has become my personal favorite New Edition album. Therefore, I wanted to create a post to pay homage to the album. I also thought it would be a nice follow up to my Pen’s Rhythm Nation: New Edition Concert Vlog.
