Dear Pennies & Pens,
In this post, #Readmoreink: American Dreamer by Tommy Hilfiger, I am going to share a review of the book. I truly enjoyed this book and wanted to share my thoughts with you.
In the book, Tommy shared intricate details about how he and his team built the Tommy Hilfiger brand and turned it into a multimillion dollar global business. Itās truly an inspiration.
My Thoughts on American Dreamer by Tommy Hilfiger
In the vlog below, I share my thoughts on the book, American Dreamer by Tommy Hilfiger. I truly enjoyed this book because as an emerging designer, it gave me tons of insight on how to run a successful fashion business.
Additionally, Tommy dispels one of the biggest myths about him which is that he is racist. Tommy Hilfiger is NOT RACIST. No seriously, he’s not. It’s all just a made up rumor. In fact, Tommy is one of the few white designers who willingly dressed Black Hip hop and R&B artists.
Tommy’s brother Andy handled marketing for the Tommy Hilfiger brand and since he loved music so much, he had tons of industry contacts. So to expand brand awareness, Andy would give clothes to artists like Snoop Dogg and Aaliyah to wear in music videos and performances.
When I learned this I gained a whole new respect for Tommy Hilfiger and what the brand means to Hip hop and Black culture. It’s very interesting to see the connection between the two. I’m so glad I read this book and learned this because the innanet is so full of misinformation.
