Dear Pennies & Pens,
When I first discovered Monsta X, it started off as just another day in quarantine. I was searching for something to do when I randomly got onto YouTube. After scrolling for a bit, I came across Monsta X’s Alligator video. From there, I was absolutely hooked.
I immediately added all of their albums to my Apple Music library and watched all of their music videos. However after scrolling through the comment section, I started to uncover the drama. And that’s when I got upset.
From what I could piece together, Wonho left the group amidst being accused of some unsavory acts. But what got me was how upset Monbebe (fans of Monsta X) were. People left comment after comment begging for Wonho not to leave or something to be done.
Since I was so new to the fandom and K Pop, I decided to Google it to get more information. From there, I read Wonho’s actual departure letter and that made me even more upset. Because what he did was so selfless. And it isn’t right that someone placed all these accusations against him and almost ruined his life and career. Someone should’ve protected him, like it just isn’t right.
So now, two years after becoming a fan, it still doesn’t sit well with me. At first, I thought it was just me who wanted to see OT7 get back together again because I would only see comments from 2019 when the drama first happened. But lately, I’ve been seeing recent comments so I know it’s not just me.
Also, as an international and American fan, I have never liked how both Monsta X and Wonho have been forced to ignore it as if it didn’t happen. Now, I know that’s most likely because their team believes that if they don’t talk about Wonho leaving, it’s like it didn’t happen and they can focus on the positive not the negative. But the problem is, it did happen. So ignoring it doesn’t make it go away.
It actually makes it worse when you don’t talk about things that clearly happened. Because then it leaves room for people to make things up or worse choose sides. And that’s exactly what’s been happening. When it comes to the fandoms Monbebe (Monsta X fans) and Wenee (Wonho fans), there’s a weird disconnect.
Like people really want you to choose between the two. You are either supposed to be Monbebe or Wenee. And some fans genuinely get mad when you mention the other party. Like my favorite Monbebe/Monwenee YouTuber 8bebe mentioned that she still gets comments from people asking why she includes Wonho in her videos.
And a few months ago, a fan was all in Vlive protesting Monsta X’s movie, The Dreaming because it wasn’t going to include Wonho. So it’s just become this whole thing that continues to manifest.
On a positive note, there are still plenty of mature, sane people like me who support both Monsta X and Wonho. But the thing is, a lot of us still want to see OT7 reunite. I don’t know what it is about Shownu, Wonho, Minhyuk, Kihyun, Hyungwon, Joohoney and I.M but the 7 of them together is just another level. They all excel individually and have their own unique styles and vibes. So when they come together, it’s just another level.
In the videos below (there’s two because my phone storage was full so I had to shoot a part II unintentionally hehe), I talk about all of the above and more. This is my petition for an OT7 reunion. I know Wonho probably can’t just rejoin the group but if we could get a song collaboration or guest spot on Idol Radio, Naver Now, Vogueshipshow, just something, anything. At this point, I’ll settle for them waving at each other on camera with their masks on.
In my whole life, I’ve never wanted to see a group reunite. Literally, never. But OT7 Monsta X hits different. So anyway, check out the videos and share your thoughts in the comments. Please note, negative comments will not be approved.
And there it is. de la Pen…All Pen Everything. With us, keeping it real never goes wrong.
