Dear Pennies & Pens,
So the time has come to say goodbye to Little Mix. As of a couple weeks ago, Little Mix announced that they are taking a break after their 2022 Confetti Tour. The group insists that it’s just a break but I believe that it is a breakup.
I mean they may reunite as Destiny’s Child has for special performances or they may get back together years from now like En Vogue. But the truth is, it is time for them to go their separate ways.
And that’s not just because of their personal life changes (i.e., Leigh & Perrie becoming mothers) it’s also time for them to explore their creative differences. What I mean is, Little Mix has always been the most beautiful blend of voices but there’s a distinct difference in each of their performance styles and it’s time to explore that.
Watching Boxing Day made me realize that. As one of the film’s co-stars, Leigh Anne was finally able to shine on her own and shine, she did. Sis killed it!!! Not only was her acting amazing but she truly commanded the stage. Like there’s this scene where Leigh walks to the stage in a red jumpsuit and it’s like most iconic shit ever!!! She looks like a literal Queen Goddess and I am so here for it.
As I said in my last Little Mix post, I am ready for the group to part ways so this is an exciting time for me. I see the breakup as a positive thing, a chance for them to explore solo projects and transition into something new. I believe that I also admitted that Leigh & Jesy were always my favorites so I’ll support anything they do.
But don’t get it twisted, I will also support Perrie & Jade as well. In fact, in my last post I made big plans for the current Little Mix trio. Leigh should do R&B, Hip-hop and acting whereas Perrie should do Broadway and Pop music and then Jade should become the Queen of millennial disco and continue to advocate for LGBTQ+ rights.
What I really love about Little Mix as a trio is that it was the final chapter of the group. Every iconic girl group had lineup changes or members that went solo…this is nothing new. I mean from the Supremes to En Vogue to Destiny’s Child, groups rarely last past 2 albums and yet, Little Mix gave us 10 years and 7 albums. Their influence is undeniable.
2021 has been all about saying Goodbye to Little Mix. They’ve done so many forms of content that show this is the beginning of the end. From the album by album breakdown, talking about their iconic music videos to the latest, Little Mix: At Home Documentary and finally the Between Us greatest hits album, it’s been such a beautiful send off.
I have truly enjoyed all of the content and I wish them all the best. I cannot wait to see what 2022 and beyond holds for Little Mix.
Until then, Little Mix 2011 – Always.
And there it is. de la Pen…All Pen Everything. With us, keeping it real never goes wrong.
