Dear Pennies & Pens,
I am CEO of ISLP, The InkSpot, LLC a creative production company and multicultural creative agency based in Dallas.
In this post, I am going to talk about how you (a potential client) can collaborate with ISLP. But first, let me give you a brief background on me and ISLP.
How I Became a Publicist
I started out as a Lifestyle Blogger, 13 years ago. I had just graduated from Hampton University with a Bachelor’s in English and I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I knew I wanted to move to NYC (which I did and I lived there for 5 years prior to relocating to Texas) but I was lost as to what I wanted in life and business.
A friend of mine suggested that I start a blog to get my writing out there. And so, my first blog, The Loudest Pen Ever was born. I maintained that blog for 2 years before launching this online magazine, de la Pen…All Pen Everything in 2010. Yes that is correct, de la Pen…All Pen Everything is now 11 years old.
While blogging, I met my former business partner and we started an agency in 2010. This is when I officially started working with clients to provide marketing and public relations services. However, it wasn’t until I moved to Texas that I began to hone my skills as a Publicist and marketing professional.
Moving to Texas
I believe that moving to Texas is the best thing I could’ve ever done for myself and the business. I moved to Texas in October of 2013. I originally moved to Houston but couldn’t stand it so I moved to Dallas in November of 2015. Texas fueled my creativity and passion because the cost of living is so much more affordable than NYC.
Since I don’t have to stress about paying my bills, it’s given me the opportunity to showcase my creativity. This has led to me being more effective when it comes to working with clients.
How I add value to client projects
As an example, pre-pandemic, I was always working in local Dallas coffee shops. So when I worked with a client on a photoshoot in 2019, I was able to suggest local coffee shops for the shoot. We ended up shooting at a local coffee shop in Uptown Dallas called Magnolia’s and the photos came out great.
Starbucks is more universal but a local shop will give you fresher photos because a local coffee shop is more likely to have unique decor. This is something I discovered on my own time but I was able to use this to add value to the client’s project. Two years later, this same client, Michelle Nelson is using those photos on her brand new Author website as she just published a children’s book, Little Ruby Does It Big.
This leads me to my next point, now that I have published several books and designed a collection of organic cotton T-shirts, I can also work with clients on similar projects. In fact, I worked with Michelle on a consultation to share insights on how to publish a book. And recently, I worked with another client to share information about how to launch a T-shirt brand.
I have also worked with clients to manage their social media accounts, write blog posts, plan events and so much more. In essence, there are endless ways that you can work with ISLP. But to be more specific, here’s the services we can provide for you.
