Dear Pennies & Pens,
As you all know, I just launched Pennies & Pens, a vegan, organic and sustainable lifestyle brand created to inspire and empower multicultural millennials to ink the life theyāve always wanted. Our Fall/Winter 2020 collection includes 100% Organic Cotton T-Shirts.Ā
However, it hit me that a lot of people still donāt know what the heck a vegan is. A vegan is a person who chooses to abstain from eating animal derived foods such as meats, eggs and dairy. The vegan lifestyle takes this one step further by not using or wearing products that contain animal derived ingredients.
The term āveganā was coined by the British animal rights activist Donald Watson in the 1940s. āVeganā describes the philosophy that animals should not be exploited and hurt for food or other purposes. – As noted by Challenge22.com.
Many social justice activists throughout history have been vegan or vegetarian. Rosa Parks, Angela Davis, Mahatma Gandhi, Dolores Huerta, Martin Luther King Jr., Coretta Scott King and countless more, have been saving animals and exposing the abuse involved in animal agriculture, while fighting for social change.
When I created Pennies & Pens, I knew that it was a priority for the products to be vegan. Although, being a vegan is my personal lifestyle choice, I didnāt want to create products that go against that. To me, it would be rather fake if I did. Iāve been vegan for five years now, check out this oldie but a goodie on Why I Became a Vegan.Ā
In essence, all Pennies & Pens T-Shirts are free of animal derived ingredients. Additionally, our marketing materials such as our business cards, hang tags, tissue paper and shipping boxes are all printed on 100% recycled materials. Our brand is 100% sustainable and eco-friendly.
One thing that Covid-19 made me realize is that we must do better, Pennies & Pens. We have to start taking better care of ourselves and the environment. We have to start recycling, eating our vegetables, wearing organic products, and practicing a sustainable lifestyle.Ā
Itās the only way to save the world. The fact is there are already water shortages and by 2025, ā of the world may not have enough drinking water. Thatās crazy!!! We can and should do better.Ā
Alright, so Iām getting off my high horse now. I love each and every one of you, Pennies & Pens. So letās save the world together!Ā
