Dear Pennies & Pens,
In this post, #MakeUrPenLoud: What is a Lifestyle Blogger, I am going to define what a lifestyle blogger is. I have been a Lifestyle Blogger for over 10 years in addition to being Author of #MakeUrPenLoud: How To Be A Lifestyle Blogger. (Here’s a throwback to my very first lifestyle post on this blog!)
I decided to create this post because almost five years ago when I first published #MakeUrPenLoud, I did a similar post. So now, I’d like to update that post with some new information for 2020.
What is a Lifestyle Blogger?
A Lifestyle Blogger is a blogger who creates content based on their personal interests and experiences. A Lifestyle Blogger’s main goal is to inspire, educate and entertain their readers. In the video from below, I define what a Lifestyle Blogger is and what we do.
What do Lifestyle Bloggers do?
Lifestyle Bloggers create content…more specifically, they write blog posts, take pictures and shoot videos. All of this content is then published to their blog. Sounds simple, right?! Haha, too bad it’s so much more complicated than that!
The fact is, a blogger has to plan their content, write, edit and publish posts, shoot and edit photos and videos not to mention promoting their content via social media, email, and events. It’s a never ending process!
How do Lifestyle Bloggers make money?
This is my favorite question of all time. Like it makes me so happy that after 11 years of blogging and with the invention of Google, people are still asking this dumbass question. It is literally Googlable.
But seriously, once a blogger decides to make money, they are starting a business. And so, there is no simple answer to the question because businesses make money in a variety of different ways.
A Lifestyle Blogger can create their own products, offer services to clients, and be sponsored by brands to promote their products. A Lifestyle Blogger can also be a paid speaker, manage social media for clients, as well as being a freelance writer or photographer.
It must be noted that it is up to each and every blogger to decide when they’ll start their business, what products and services they’ll offer, etc. This is why there is no simple answer to the question. I cannot emphasize that enough.
Who do Lifestyle Bloggers work with?
As far as clients, customers and sponsors that a Lifestyle Blogger works with, this once again depends on the blogger. Usually, a blogger works with clients, customers and sponsors related to their niche or audience.
For example, I am Vegan so when it comes to food brands and restaurants, I only work with Vegan brands, Vegan restaurants or restaurants with Vegan options. It just wouldn’t make sense for me to promote a seafood restaurant, ya dig? I would look fake and inauthentic to my audience.
But overall, Lifestyle Bloggers work with fashion, beauty, music, art, travel, food, wine, and beer brands. Lifestyle Bloggers take on these types of companies as clients or sponsors. If they’re a client, it means the blogger is creating content for them.
If they’re a sponsor, it means the blogger is being paid to promote the brand and their products. In regards to customers, that refers to a blogger’s audience. If a blogger creates their own product, they can sell it directly to their audience which means they convert readers into being customers.
It’s an Inkwrap
As you can see, lifestyle blogging is no joke. It takes time, effort and energy to start a lifestyle blog. Then if you decide to start a business, you’ve really got your work cut out for you. But the good news is, there’s some ink that’ll help you create the best blog page ever.
