Pen Style: La Metamorphose Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2020 Show Review
Dear Pennies & Pens,
In this post, Pen Style: La Metamorphose Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2020, I’ll be reviewing the brand’s latest collection. For those that don’t know, Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week took place January 20 – 23, 2020 in Paris.
If you’ve been following de la Pen…All Pen Everything since our humble beginnings in 2010, you know that this was originally a fashion blog. I covered New York Fashion Week from 2010-2013 for both the Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer shows in addition to Style.uz Art Week in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. I’ve also featured Copenhagen Fashion Week.
What is Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week?
Well, first, let’s define Haute Couture. As it states on Wikipedia, “Haute couture is high-end fashion that is constructed by hand from start to finish, made from high-quality, expensive, often unusual fabric and sewn with extreme attention to detail and finished by the most experienced and capable sewers—often using time-consuming, hand-executed techniques.”
That being said, Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week features couture designers from around the world showcasing their collections. The official Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week is organized by The Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode. The Fédération also organizes Paris Fashion Week Women’s and Men’s aka the ready to wear collections for women and men.
Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week takes place in January and July. There are only about 100 designers that are members of the The Fédération because of the rigorous requirements membership requires. In essence, there are a lot of designers who show during haute couture fashion week and Paris Fashion Week who are not members of The Fédération but they are still extremely talented artists whose work deserves to be celebrated.

La Métamorphose Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week Spring Summer 2020 Inspiration
Inspired by the poems of French poet, Sully Prudhomme, the Spring Summer 2020 collection is titled, Le Couleurs de I’Âme (The Colors of the Soul).
As stated in the press notes, “The collection is a tribute to the woman as a muse, evanescent inspiration for the poet. This transparency of french tules is sublimated with the chiffon, the silk, satin and taffeta, in a whirl of pastel true colors.”
The press notes also include a poem by Sully Prudhomme which I have enclosed below.
Deep in my heart, behind my brow,
There is a soul, invisible but manifest:
The suspicious will look for it;
I spread it, then feel it!
Everywhere sparkle the colors,
But where does this power come from?
There is a blue who kills me,
Because the eyes are made of it.
Each body has its outline,
But where does the touching shape come from?
How do you make the great loves,
Small line of the mouth?
The humming air makes sounds,
But where does the close delight come from
Which these thrills bring
When a voice lights it up?
Deep in my heart, behind my brow,
There is a soul, invisible but manifest:
The suspicious will look for it;
I spread it then feel it!
Sully Prudhomme
Inkreview: My thoughts on La Métamorphose Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week Spring Summer 2020
The La Métamorphose collection used a pastel color palette with fabrics ranging from silk, tulle, chiffon and taffeta. With gowns as well as pantsuits and trousers, the collection offered diversity as well as elegance and femininity.
It was a truly stunning collection created with some serious attention to detail. Every piece was ethereal yet chic. I loved the various design details like off-the shoulder gowns, slits on dresses making the pieces subtly sexy, as well as looks that captured the essence of femininity meets masculinity.
My favorite looks were of course the pantsuits and trousered looks. Yall know I’m a tomboy so these pieces were truly my jam.
But I also loved the only above the knee length dress that was featured. It was a true show stopper! Check out the full collection in the gallery below.
And there it is. de la Pen…All Pen Everything. With us, keeping real never goes wrong.
