Dear Pennies & Pens,
This post, Behind the Ink: My life as a Black Woman and Entrepreneur features a brand new video from my YouTube channel, ISLPDTX. As you all know, I own a creative production company, ISLP.
I’ve been wanting to produce more video content and so I unofficially launched the channel in November. Since then I’ve been playing around with it doing videos here and there. I’m finally ready to get serious about it so expect more videos in the future.
Anywho, back to the matter at hand. I started my first business, 8515 with my business partner Cacha Lopez in 2010. So over the past 10 years, I’ve learned a lot about being an entrepreneur.
But also, I’ve learned all about myself as a Black woman. As a Black woman, I have had to face a variety of obstacles besides the regular stress that comes along with having your own business. I’ve dealt with racism, sexism and even some ageism. It’s been a wild ride.
In the video below, I break down some of these experiences and how they affected me. Most of what I talk about in the video is also featured in my book, The Loudest Pen Ever. The Loudest Pen Ever is a collection of original stories and poems. It’s my reflections on life, love, relationships and pop culture. It’s a dope book in my inkopinion.
I couldn’t have inked it without having gone through all the shit I’ve gone through. So check out the inkvideo and let me know your inkthoughts in the comments!
And there it is. de la Pen…All Pen Everything. With us, keeping real never goes wrong.
