Dear Pennies & Pens,
So somehow, some way, Hallmark heard our cry for diversity. And so, in 2018, they released several films starring people of color. My Christmas Inn was one of those movies. Starring Tia Mowry-Hardrict, My Christmas Inn tells the story of Jen Taylor, a busy corporate creative up who is up for a big promotion at the ad agency where she works. But Jen’s life is turned upside down when she learns that she inherited a cozy inn in Alaska from her great Aunt.
Jen has to travel to Alaska to inspect the property and meet with the town’s attorney, Brian Anderson (Rob Mayes). As you can probably guess, Brian is Jen’s love interest. Although they are attracted to each other, they initially fight it since they lead such different lives. However as with any great Hallmark flick, love conquers all.
And so, Jen and Brian live happily ever after. I know I technically told you what happens but I didn’t tell you how it happens. So be sure to check out this movie so you can stay in the holiday spirit all year long.
Tia made an additional Hallmark Holiday film, A Gingerbread Romance. This movie also starred Duane Henry. A Gingerbread Romance is about Taylor, an architect whose company will be competing in a contest to build a life-sized gingerbread house. Naturally, it’s Taylor who’s chosen to design the house. Taylor is originally supposed to work with a renowned French pastry chef named Isabelle but they have a falling out.
And so, Taylor recruits Adam, a baker and single dad. Adam works at a small family owned bakery and is extremely talented. Adam & Taylor definitely butt heads at first but after a while, they slowly but surely start to fall in love. This is when the movie starts to get even cuter.
I absolutely loved it! Y’all know I have been rocking with Tia & Tamera since Sister, Sister. They are truly my sheroes. Their work (in my opinion) represents so much about the modern millennial woman. Every movie or tv show they’ve ever made is always classy and entertaining. And they’re never loud, ghetto, or obnoxious. Basically, they’re not the stereotype people love to portray Black women as.
And in real life, they’re just as dope. They’re both married with kids in addition to being entrepreneurs and authors. So I’m sorry but I’m gonna have to gush over them for a minute. Okay, I’m done now. If you have watched either of these flicks, let me know what you think in the comments!
And there it is. de la Pen…All Pen Everything. With us, keeping it real never goes wrong.
