Dear Pennies & Pens,
This past April, my agency, 8515 planned and hosted an anniversary event, #MP3 to celebrate the 3rd anniversary of my book, #MakeUrPenLoud: How To Be A Lifestyle Blogger. I can’t believe we were able to make #MP3 happen! We started planning the event in January but kept getting sidetracked with other projects like Pen’s Flicks: Black Panther and the All Pen Everything shoot.
Moving right along, #MP3 was a major success! #MP3 was a social event dedicated to celebrating the 3rd anniversary of the book, #MakeUrPenLoud: How To Be A Lifestyle Blogger. During #MP3, Pennies & Pens ate delicious breakfast tacos and sipped on mimosas. Additionally, attendees were able connect with their fellow Pennies & Pens who are some of the dopest cats in Dallas.
The guest list included all sorts of different creatives such as bloggers, influencers, photographers, stylists, musicians, producers, designers, entrepreneurs, and more. Attendees were sooo diverse as far as background and ethnicity! There were people from all different backgrounds and walks of life. It was so LIT!!!
As far as the main attraction, that was yours truly. During #MP3, I did standup comedy as well as telling stories about my life and businesses, 8515 + ISLP. I also ranted *coughs* commented on pop culture, life, love, and relationships.
Why standup comedy?! Because I’m not just funny looking…I’m actually funny. But nah for real, I believes that laughter is the best medicine and I am always cracking jokes. But previously, I have never been able to showcase my comedic skills in a public space. In essence, #MP3 was about creating a platform to share my story and talent.
Also during #MP3, I signed copies of #MakeUrPenLoud: How To Be A Lifestyle Blogger as well as introducing her new book, The Loudest Pen Ever. #MakeUrPenLoud teaches Pennies & Pens how to create original content for a lifestyle blog and work with brands. The Loudest Pen Ever is book of original quotes. In this book, I offer reflections on life, love, relationships, business, pop culture, and much more. By sharing original quotes, I give readers a glimpse into my life and world.
#MP3 was truly a unique event. It was a brunch, anniversary party, book signing, book release party, and standup comedy special all in one. It was unlike anything else happening in Dallas. And did we mention that 90s Hip-hop and R&B was played throughout the event?! It was dope!
#MP3 started with guests mix and mingling as they sipped on their mimosas and ate their tacos. Next, I welcomed everyone to the event and introduced myself. For those that were unable to attend, please note that I am a Lifestyle Entrepreneur with two different businesses, 8515 + ISLP. So during the event, I went into more details about what I do.
After that, attendees were invited to come to the microphone and introduce themselves. Pennies & Pens are a diverse group so attendees included designers, stylists, bloggers, photographers, there was even a Chef in the building! Once that was done, I came up and did my standup telling stories about 8515 + ISLP and my sad love life.
As the event started to wind down, I sold quite a few copies of #MakeUrPenLoud: How To Be A Lifestyle Blogger. I was able to sign a copy for each person that bought one so that was cool too. I felt all fancy like I’m a celeb or some shit! Lol! I mean think about it there I am signing my book at an event that I planned. Pretty dope right?!
To toot 8515’s horn real quick, we pretty much took care of everything for the event. We handled everything from creating the concept, finding the venue, creating the guest list, designing the invite, marketing the event, cooking the food, and creating the playlist.
As far as marketing, we really pushed ourselves with this event by also boosting the event on Facebook and running ads on Facebook and Instagram. We found that this increased engagement and interest in the event significantly. In essence, paid social advertising is the way to go especially if you’re seeking to generate revenue from the event or project you are promoting.
To wrap this up, I am really pleased with how #MP3 turned out. It definitely exceeded our expectations which is really good. Cacha & I are looking forward to our next event and have several on the horizon.
There’s the Glossy Babe Brunch, 8 Years of Ink, Pen’s Rhythm Nation, Pensgiving, and many more. Our mission is to bring El Sabor hence why we live on flavor street.
