Dear Pennies & Pens,
So idk about y’all but I am beyond excited about the soon to be released film, Black Panther. This movie is about to sooooo dope, epic, and life changing!!! Like a movie about a Black superhero with an all Black cast, a Black director, and a Black costume designer?! And it’s coming out during Black History Month? This joint is about to be so LIT!
Moving right along, about a month ago, I was meeting with Ms. Michelle Nelson who’s a friend of mine. Michelle has also attended 8515 events in the past so she’s pretty familiar with our work. During our meeting, Michelle suggested that I do a meetup for Black Panther. It’s funny because I had thought about doing an event but I wasn’t sure if anyone would want to come. So when Michelle suggested that I do the event, I knew I had to move forward.
Being the certified event planner that I am, I of course had to write up an event plan so I could get my ideas out on paper. Once that was done, I created the eventbrite page to collect RSVPs, then I created the guest list, designed the event invite, and sent it out. After all that, I simply waited for RSVP’s and payment from attendees.
Additionally, I also promoted the event on social media to create some buzz and generate interest in the event. Although, this is a smaller event, I have found that posting about your event on social media is the best way to build and create hype. Also, I have realized that people are paying attention to what you are saying and doing. That said, don’t be discouraged if it takes you awhile to build your audience. In most cases, people are waiting to see if you’ll be consistent and they want to see if you are worth their time and energy.
Shit, Pennies & Pens, y’all know I get off topic! This post is supposed to be about the event. So anywho back to the matter at hand, Pen’s Flicks is a collection of movie meetups, film screenings, and panel discussions curated by 8515. Inspired by the film section of de la Pen, Pen’s Flicks is about creating a unique experience for film lovers. Pen’s Flicks features unique and original films that chronicle the multicultural experience.
Whether it’s a major Hollywood release, an independent film, or a classic 80s or 90s movie, each film we select tells a story that captures the essence of the multicultural lifestyle. The films we choose will be from the following genres: Comedy, Drama, Action, Documentary, and Romance. Pen’s Flicks will focus on highlighting the work of multicultural creatives in the film industry.
The inaugural Pen’s Flicks will feature “Black Panther”, the highly anticipated Marvel film. To learn more about Black Panther see the film description below.
After the death of his father, T’Challa returns home to the African nation of Wakanda to take his rightful place as king. When a powerful enemy suddenly reappears, T’Challa’s mettle as king — and as Black Panther — gets tested when he’s drawn into a conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people.
If the event description for Pen’s Flicks and the film description for Black Panther doesn’t get you hype about this event, then idk what will. I mean it’s gonna be so LIVE!!! We’ve already purchased our tickets for the film so we’re just counting down the days. Having said that, if you would like to attend the event, contact me via email at loudpen8515@gmail.com and we’ll see what we can work out.
And there it is. de la Pen…All Pen Everything. With us, keeping it real never goes wrong.
