My fellow Pennies & Pens,
Every time I visit Kansas City, I experience something new. From the start of KC and All That Jazz, I knew this time would be no different. Pen and I both hold good eats near and dear to our hearts and we were humbled to have the privilege to dine in with Cooper’s Hawk KC.
Upon arriving at Cooper’s Hawk, we settled into a booth where we were able to explore wine, hor’dourves, dinner, and dessert. Having sampled their wine before we immediately knew we would start our course with yup that’s right wine!!!
The beauty of Cooper’s Hawk is that you can choose from at least six different types of flights (4 samples of wine). Pen chose white & I chose red, while we are on the topic of red, I also had a delicious Classic Red Sangria with dessert which we’ll discuss more later (wink, wink).
So the flights consisted of four very generous wine tastings; my Red Flight included: Sangiovese, Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Cabernet Sauvignon; Pen’s White Flight included: Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Cooper’s Hawk White, and Chardonnay.
Also, did I forget to mention every bottle of Cooper’s Hawk wine is produced at a local vineyard of their choosing and christened with the Cooper’s Hawk label?! Moving on to hor’dourves we were able to indulge in crispy Crab Beignets, and Over The Border Egg Rolls (I’m a sucker for anything southern).
Our most health conscience bite was the Classic Tomato Bruschetta. With every bite we took we knew there had to be more enticing flavors wrapped in our entrees.
Pen enjoyed a Salmon Kale Salad (without the Salmon & with Balsamic Vinaigrette dressing so it was Vegan) which the wonderful Cooper’s Hawk manager Sara recommended to meet made sure met Pen’s Vegan dietary needs. My husband and I went the seafood route with Shrimp Campanelle & Southern Grilled Shrimp and Polenta, this was my first go at polenta and I was very excited!
We were able to enjoy our meals over a soft ambiance, rich conversation and great wine. I would like to state for the record Pennies and Pens I, Renee Jones was celebrating a 30 something birthday so there was no doubt I was giving in to a guilty pleasure…… SWEETS! I decided to treat myself to an ooey gooey butter cake…. And I must say Tres Bon.
So in conclusion when plans point you in the direction of Kansas City, Missouri be sure to find your way to Cooper’s Hawk. P.S. Cooper’s Hawk has multiple locations in different states 😉 Learn more here: www.coopershawkwinery.com
