Dear Pennies & Pens,
A few weeks ago, I attended Aurora while in Dallas. Aurora is a massive light, sound, video and performance arts event held in the Dallas Arts District every two years. I had never heard of Aurora so I was excited to see what the event was all about.
As it states in the press release, “For one night, every two years, downtown Dallas is transformed into an open-air, urban playground of new media art: light, video, sound, performance, and projection on an unprecedented scale. The immersive exhibition showcases work by a confluence of local and international artists, selected by a team of established curators.”
While at Aurora, I must admit I was blown away by the beautiful art. It was truly an incredible experience that allowed you to view and connect with the art. I remember walking through Klyde Warren Park thinking of how beautiful the installations were and how it must’ve taken so much time and energy to plan such an event.
To quote the press release, “Visitors are offered the unparalleled opportunity to see their familiar urban environment converted into an interactive site for some of the world’s most innovative contemporary art. Aurora’s aim is to liberate art from space and disciplinary confines, involving the general public and the international arts community in an inclusive and larger cultural conversation about artistic experience.”
As someone who visited Aurora, I definitely agree that the event delivered on its promise. Aurora is truly a unique event that unites the city of Dallas in addition to giving Dallas a signature event that will attract visitors.
Over 50,000 people attended Aurora and sponsors include Reliant, the AT&T Performing Arts Center, and more. Aurora is the brainchild of artist Shane Pennington, spearheaded with co-founder and artist Joshua King, and co-founder Veletta Forsythe Lill.
