Dear Pennies & Pens,
It’s ya girl LoudPen here to share with you Pen.Style: #MakeUrPenLOUD…FIG Flow. As you all hopefully know from the last few posts Press Pen: Jewels by Cacha` and #MakeUrPenLOUD Debut at Flavor’s Night Out, Now Let Me Ink That Page: #MakeUrPenLOUD, and Press Pen: Flavor’s Night Out, I am about to publish a book called #MakeUrPenLOUD: How To Be A Lifestyle Blogger.
#MakeUrPenLOUD: How To Be A Lifestyle Blogger is the first book dedicated to teaching people how to be lifestyle bloggers. #MakeUrPenLOUD features advice on how to write about fashion, beauty, music, film, art, travel, and events.
I decided to write #MakeUrPenLOUD because I want to inspire and empower readers by helping them learn to create original content for their lifestyle blogs. The ability to create unique content is crucial to landing brand partnerships and building a social media following. Brands and readers want to know that a blogger is knowledgeable, creative, and capable. #MakeUrPenLOUD is an interesting read that will give readers the knowledge they need to create amazing content.
In order to promote, #MakeUrPenLOUD, I decided to do a Pen.Style shoot called Pen.Style: #MakeUrPenLOUD. For this editorial, I worked with photographer Megan Weaver and we shot in front of the Fashion Industry Gallery in Dallas. I visited f.i.g. for the first time in November for Fashion X Dallas and fell in love with the space. I hope to one day host an event there.
In the meantime, I am happy to shoot in front of this awesome space. I decided to call this post “FIG Flow” because that’s what I’m on in the photos. As a lifestyle blogger, I am always attending fashion, art, music, travel, film, and music events (with some food & wine events thrown in) so I’m always flowing aka moving from here to there. No two days or events are ever the same.
While flowing to and fro, I always try to make sure my outfits are on point. With this look, I chose light pastels to illustrate the colors of Spring. I am the Queen of Black so I sought to incorporate some color with this look. Most of the clothes featured were pulled from Macy’s. The top is by Rachel Roy, the jacket is Bar III, the pants are from The Limited, the bag is from ALDO, and the jewelry is from Durrah Jewellery.
This look is about being professional but chic at the same time. I think I nailed the styling but I do think I need to think harder about my beauty looks before my next shoot. I know most bloggers would never dream of criticizing themselves in a public forum but you guys know my policy is to keep it real.
And I honestly, I have mixed feelings about my makeup in these photos. On the one hand I love it because it is bright and fun. On the other hand, I wish I would’ve chosen a darker eyeshadow because that light color makes my eyes look too sleepy.
The crazy thing about shooting editorials is there are so many elements that go into it. In essence, it’s almost impossible to get everything right.
That said, when you see an amazing fashion or lifestyle editorial think of all the work that went into it. The stylist, photographer, model, etc all had to work together to produce an amazing shoot.
For this shoot, I had to pull the clothing from Macy’s which I did on Thursday in Houston before driving to Dallas on Saturday for my shoot. Durrah (the talented designer behind Durrah Jewellery) sent me her pieces from L.A. which I picked up from FedEx the week of my shoot. Also Real Techniques sent me makeup brushes to use for the shoot.
In essence, I had to manage communication with three sponsors, coordinate my travel to Dallas which also coincided with my collaboration with Omni Mandalay Hotel, and communicate with my photographer Megan.
As you can see, it was a lot to handle so I am glad I was able to make it happen. I feel blessed to have made this project happen and I cannot wait until the book is released!
And there it is: de la Pen…All Pen Everything. With us, keeping it real never goes wrong.
