Dear Pennies & Pens,
Yesterday, on Memorial Day, I attended Lincoln Motor Company’s Lincoln Driven To Dine (#LincolnDriven2Dine) event at Sparrow Bar + Cookshop. Lincoln partnered with Sparrow’s Chef, Monica Pope to produce a culinary event involving Lincoln cars and SUVs. Upon arriving at the event, I had the chance to test drive a 2015 Lincoln MKC. After that, I went into Sparrow and enjoyed a lovely three course meal prepared by Monica Pope.
First things first, the Lincoln MKC was amazing! I absolutely loved this SUV. I’m not usually a fan of SUVs, I like riding in them but driving them makes me nervous because I’m so used to cars. However, the Lincoln MKC was the perfect size SUV, it’s spacious but not overwhelmingly large like other SUVs. Plus the design is so pretty! I am no car fanatic but since my dad has a business that deals with fixing cars, I am very familiar with different cars as far as makes and models. Traditionally, Lincoln has been known for its towncars but with designs like the MKC, Lincoln is making its way into a new frontier.
The Lincoln MKC has cool features like the ability to start the car remotely with a sensor key or with your smartphone and the MyLincoln Mobile app. With the key, the car simply has to sense the sensor and it will start. With the MyLincoln Mobile™ app, you can program your MKC to start remotely at a specific time with your customized climate settings.
You can even remotely lock and unlock the doors and more, as you wish. Another cool feature of the car is that you shift gears by pressing a button. I’ll admit that this feature took me out of my comfort zone but in a good way.
The Lincoln MKC also features heated and air conditioned seats. Here in Houston, a feature like that would come in very handy because it gets hot in Houston. As I said earlier, I loved the design of the Lincoln MKC. It had beautiful leather seats, a leather steering wheel, and the attention to detail was amazing. I would definitely recommend checking out the Lincoln MKC if you’re in the market for a new car. Check out Lincoln’s website for more info: www.lincoln.com/mkc. Now it’s time to talk about the food. Oh the food. It was like #TheeBest. I started with the “Chick” (Chickpea) fries with red curry-sambal oelek-catsup, Indian salt. These fries did have to grow on me because it is a different taste. It’s a mixture of potato, chicken, and salt. However, after a few bites, I started to like the fries. I think it was more that the fries featured things I’ve never tasted so my taste buds needed time to adjust. Once they did, I finished the whole plate.
My second course was the Gulf Crab Cake, almost sprouted slaw, vanilla bean aioli. I loved the crab cake from first bite! It was fresh and the seasoning was perfect! It was awesome and a highlight of the meal. My third course was the Cheesecake with walnut crust and lemon curd. My goodness, this was so good, it made me want to slap my mama! And that’s crazy because I am not a dessert person. I eat dessert like once a month or every few months, I just don’t have a sweet tooth.
But I ate every piece of this cheesecake. The walnut crust was the perfect pairing for the softness of the cheesecake. Plus the lemon curd that was on top of the cheesecake gave it a sweet, lemon-filled taste. If you’re in the Houston area, you definitely need to put a meal at Sparrow on your to do list.
