A few months ago, I was browsing through iTunes and I discovered a new French artist named Ben L’Oncle Soul. Ben L’Oncle Soul is a Soul/R&B artist from France. There’s not much info on Ben other than the fact that his name comes from Uncle Ben’s rice. Ben is also known for his retro-chic style.
Most of Ben l’Oncle Soul’s 2011 self-titled album is in French so since I don’t speak French, I can’t honestly tell you what it’s about. But it sounds lovely. His music puts me in a relaxed mood and I’ve been obsessed with it since getting the album. In my heart, I know it’s about love, life, and everything in between. So though, it’s in a language I don’t speak, I understand the rhythm, the vibe of the music, and the soul that created it.
There are some standout tracks like Seven Nation Army (which is in English), Soulman, I Don’t Want To Waste, Petite Seour, and Mon Amour. Each of these tracks features Ben’s amazing voice, smooth beats, and classic rhythm. Usually, I play this album when winding down with a glass of wine or when I wake up in the morning and just need some chill music to get me up and motivated.
I would highly recommend this album. It is available on iTunes Ben l’ Oncle Soul so be sure to check it out. Another thing I have to note is how dope Ben’s style is. His styling reminds me of a gentlemen from a past era but it is somehow relevant and very chic. He usually wears a bow-tie and his hair in a natural curly state.
