Dear Pennies & Pens,
About a month ago, I received a press release titled, “When Fashion and Home collide: Alexander McQueen and Martin Patrick Evan – a True Couture Collection for the Home.” I receive many press releases, media alerts, etc but this one truly caught my eye. And although, I knew it would take me a month to get this article published, I couldn’t wait to do so.
As stated in the press release, “Martin Patrick Evan, Ltd. creates the most beautiful custom rugs and carpets in the world. They work exclusively with the trade for both contract and residential work through showrooms in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Houston. Their ongoing research and product development allows them to offer an endless array of opulent materials, weaves and colors. Their partners and representatives are rug designers with a solid understanding of historic periods as well as modern and contemporary styles. Since 1997, Martin Patrick Evan’s team has been led by its two founders John Patrick Dolan and Gregg Evan Lempp. Over the last 15 years, they have been designing custom rugs and carpets for leading interior designers and architects here in the US and abroad and have become a recognized authority within the industry.”
With such an impressive bio, it is clear why Martin Patrick Evan, Ltd. has had so much success. But I would also mention that the designs of the rugs and carpets the company produces are extraordinary. The attention to detail and the intricate designs make each one exquisite. It’s nice to wear beautiful clothes but comfort in the home is also of the utmost importance. And in order for your home to comfortable, it should be decorated in a way that expresses who you are. I truly believe that one’s home should reflect the person living there.
Fashion design and interior design often take inspiration from one another. Recently, Edouard Daunas of Martin Patrick Evan, Ltd. used last year’s Alexander McQueen show at the Metropolitan Museum Art, as his muse for the “Raw Nature” collection. “I was attracted to the movement in design created through a static medium with the use of the various materials. We referenced some of the designs in a variety of our refined qualities including cut pile silk/wool blend that gives just enough shimmer and movement.” says Daunas.
If you study the collection, you can see the vision of Daunas and the McQueen influence. There is the Turbine rug that is black and white inspired by a McQueen jumpsuit, then there is Arara Rug with its beautiful colors, and the Butterflies Rug with its bold red. My favorite is the Flowerbrellas Rug which was inspired by a lovely McQueen gown. Overall, the collection is refreshing and shows impeccable taste.
