Dear Pennies & Pens,
During New York Fashion Week, I also attended the ØDD Fall/Winter 2013 presentation. ØDD was previously a men’s only line however, this season, the avant garde label expanded to include womenswear. According to the press materials: “This season, both genders will find the juxtaposition of refined tailoring met with uniquely “ØDD” silhouettes. The detailing, ranging from distressing to the most intricate of pleats, is, according to co-designers Judson Harmon and Jordan Klein, meant to signify an exploration into the mind’s psychological arsenal. The collection, both introspective and simultaneously progressive, maintains a black and stained white color palette that speaks to those dark, often undiscovered, corridors’ of the human persona.”
The ØDD F/W 2013 collection was aptly titled “People Have Weapons”. Having noted this and after reading more on the collection’s inspiration, it is evident that this collection is about strength and power. But it’s also about how simplicity can be complex. Take the color palette for example, the collection only uses black and white and yet the colors are used in so many different ways. Also, the collection includes menswear and womenswear but both lines have an androgynous look and feel. Meaning the collections are interchangeable, women could wear the menswear pieces and vice versa.
ØDD was definitely a highlight of my #NYFW. As far as womenswear, my favorite looks included two pleated dresses one creme and the other black, a creme and black jacket that went with a skirt, both pieces had all sorts of cool shapes that were cut into the fabric, and lastly, a creme and black jacket that featured some fur paired with creme and black pants. For menswear, I loved a look that featured a strong black blazer, white top, and black pants, there was also a black blazer paired with a white shirt, black vest and pants. Additionally, there was a black jacket with a piece of white fabric sewn on top that was matched with creme pants.
Overall, I found this collection to be creative and thought provoking. I would definitely recommend that you check out ØDD’s website here: odd-style.com. And be sure to follow ØDD’s owner/designer @judsonharmon on Twitter.
And there it is. de la Pen…All Pen Everything.
