Dear Pennies & Pens,
In spite of a jam packed #NYFW schedule, there’s always designers that you look forward to seeing. This season, Daniella Kallmeyer was one of those designers for me. I attended a press preview for Daniella sometime last year, and since I didn’t get the chance to feature her then, I couldn’t wait to see her F/W 2013 collection to review for de la Pen.
The press materials offers this quote from Daniella on the inspiration for this season, “For Fall 2013 I had become obsessed with Io Sono L’amore “I AM LOVE” with Tilda Swinton, who’s personal style in general is so inspiring in it’s simplicity, modernity, and sophistication. The more I watched it, the more inspired I became with the nuances and symbolism in Italian cinematography- from the music, to the colors, to the architecture, to the scenic pauses. Fall 2013 is about understated luxury, pulled from imagery of bourjois italian interiors, old hollywood, and vintage ski photos. I fell in love with a particular black and white photo of some skiers in cable-knit sweaters and pleated wool trousers and I imagined the kind of chic ski trip Katherine Hepburn and the Kennedys would take in the mountains of France or the Italian Alps.”
In my humble opinion, Daniella definitely achieved her goal in presenting a collection that defines understated luxury. The collection is modern, refined, and wearable. The color palette was simple black, white, grey, olive, purple and red. The red pieces were my favorites. There was a red top with a long skirt, a red boxed top with trousers, a white long sleeved top with a black leather boxed top over it, paired with black pants.
Overall, this collection features a variety of looks that could be worn to the fabulous events that the Daniella Kallmeyer woman is sure to be attending.
