Dear Pennies & Pens,
So as you all know, I recently began delving into the world of sports blogging. It’s been an interesting entrance but we’ll chat on that more later. Right now, I just wanted to share with you some cool news in the sports photography world. The Morrison Hotel Gallery which is traditionally a fine art and music photography gallery just launched its sports brand.
The Morrison Gallery’s kick off sports exhibition will be featuring renowned sports photographers like Neil Leiffer, Walter Iooss, Ken Regan, and more. The Morrison Galley’s SoHo location features work by Neil Leiffer who has shot for Sports Illustrated, LIFE, and TIME. Mr. Leiffer stated that Mohammed Ali was one of his favorite subjects to photograph and he had the opportunity to do so on 60 different occasions.
I stopped by the exhibition last week, and I was enthralled with Mr. Leiffer’s work. It is truly amazing. He seriously captured some of the most iconic sports images of all time. And his attention to detail and ability to capture the essence of a moment is like none other I’ve seen. It was so cool to see such a unique body of work. Fashion photography is beautiful but its not real, its more of a fantasy whereas in sports photography, it is the photographer’s job to capture real moments. In essence, I respect both forms of photography but one has to be truly talented to capture sports.
As far as the launch of the sports brand, Peter Blachley, owner of the Morrison Hotel Gallery, statesĀ “Our entry into fine art sports photography fits well with our brand and our customers’ needs. As we have demonstrated our success in offering fine art music photography, we are now excited to offer the most beautifully photographed sports images, from the most iconic and historically significant to the most esoteric as taken from the archives of the leading photographers in the field.”
With that last quote, I’m going to peace out. Check out the Morrison Hotel Gallery here: www.morrisonhotelgallery.com.
And there it is. de la Pen…All Pen Everything.Ā
