Dear Pennies & Pens,
It’s been a long time since I’ve done a “1000 Words” post so I’m excited to be revisiting this section of de la Pen. “1000 Words” is all about showcasing beautiful images whether they be fashion editorials or photos of iconic artists. For this “1000 Words”, I wanted to share with you Stolen Moments — The Photographs of Ronny Jacques which is a coffee table book curated by friend of Jacques and Town-in-Country Editor-in-Chief, Pamela Fiori.
Stolen Moments, marks the first time Ronny Jacques’ work has been collected to be published in a book. Ronny Jacques was one of the most influential and least recognized magazine photographers of his generation. He was a contemporary of Richard Avedon, Lillian Bassman, and Horst. However, Jacques shot for his share of top magazines like Town & Country, Harper’s Bazaar, Holiday, and Gourmet. He also photographed icons like actor Marlon Brando whose on the cover of the book.
I love Ronny Jacques’ photography because his photos really capture the essence of his subjects. The images show emotion, they have life, and they are so extraordinarily beautiful. Like the name of the book, each photo clearly captures a moment in time that can never be repeated. Ronny Jacques passed in 2008, at the age of 98 but his work lives on. Through Stolen Moments, Jacques’ work can be shared with a new generation.
Ronny Jacques photographed fashion icons like Yves Saint Laurent, Coco Chanel, as well as African-American legends like Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, and Nat King Cole. Jacques’ work tells the truth and inspires you at the same time. In essence, please check out Stolen Moments, by Pamela Fiori, copyright © 2008, published by Glitterati Incorporated. www.
