Dear Pennies & Pens,
It’s Pen here to introduce to you Maison Kitsuné a popular French fashion brand. Maison Kitsuné was created by Gildas Loaec and Masaya Kuroki in 2002. Their first ready to wear collection was launched for the Spring/Summer 2005 season at the Paris venue Palais de Tokyo.
As stated on their website, Maison Kitsuné seeks to define “the new classic” with distinguished clothing for men and women of the highest quality for everyday life. Maison Kitsuné gives extra special attention to the quality of their fabrics and tailoring of garments by working with factories that still embrace artisan methods in order to produce a durable and timeless product. Maison Kitsuné is all about classic sophistication with a modern attitude.
For the Spring/Summer 2013 season, Maison Kitsuné drew its inspiration from the Americana aesthetic most notably, the West Coast – taking on a relaxed, sporty chic style while still keeping its preppy identity. The collection is playful enough for the “mademoiselle” and yet sleek enough for the “madame” as stated in the official press release.
After visiting the Maison Kitsuné website and checking out the press release and images, I knew I would have to feature this amazing fresh new brand. Emerging designers tend to shy away from designing “classic” staples because that market is already covered by established brands; so, they usually create funky designs that are more artistic than wearable. However, designing classic clothes that are more universal could generate the sales a new brand so desperately needs because the brand isn’t catering to such a small market.
Maison Kitsuné has somehow created their own niche by being an emerging brand that is producing classic staples. The pieces found in their Spring/Summer 2013 collection could be easily worn with other staples like a trench coat, flare leg trousers, or heels. Personally, I love the menswear inspired vibe I get from the collection. There are some fabulous pant suits found in the collection that give a girly tomboy like me NEW LIFE. I loved the ivory pant suit, a blue sweater paired with khaki shorts, and a super cool blue pinstripe suit.
Overall, the Maison Kitsuné collection is fantastic and I definitely recommend you check this brand out. Also, they just opened a store in New York at the Nomad Hotel. Maison Kitsuné can also be found at Barneys New York and Bergdorf Goodman. Please check out their website to learn more: www.kitsune.fr
