Dear Pennies & Pens,
Itās Pen here to continue New York Fashion Week coverage with my review of the Nolcha Fashion Week show I attended on September 12th. Let me briefly interject and say that September 12th was my 21st (*wink*) birthday! I ran around attending shows all day but I received plenty of texts, calls, tweets, etc from friends and family. I also celebrated on both Friday & Saturday with friends so check out some of the photos on The Blogging PR Girl.
Just to give you some background info on Nolcha Fashion Week, it is one of New Yorkās leading platforms for independent fashion designers. Nolcha Fashion Week has been around for six years and has showcased emerging designers from New York, L.A., Turkey, Peru, Dubai, Thailand, and many more. This yearās show was sponsored by RUSK as well as CLEAR, American Airlines, Scent of Seduction, RealBeanz, Don Q Rums, Monster Energy Drink, Marte Multimedia, and ProTexting.Ā The Nolcha Fashion Week event was a day long fashion showcase that started at 11am with āBest in British Menswearā and culminated at 8pm with a womenswear runway show. I attended the 1:30pm show and while I only saw Priti Baliās Priti by Design and Adolfo Sanchezās eponymous line, I enjoyed the event immensely.
Priti by DesignĀ was a collection for the sophisticated woman more concerned with style than fashion. Most of the pieces were very wearable and chic. One of my favorite pieces was a black dress with cut outs and red fabric on the side, there was also a black pencil shirt with a black bustier top that was really fresh. In fact, the bustier was shown twice with two different types of skirts, and the first look included a red jacket that I absolutely adored. The collection was very strong although tailoring couldāve been better and I wouldāve chosen a different hair & make-up look. However, these are minor items meaning thatĀ Priti by DesignĀ has room for improvement to become a stronger line and I believe that is more than possible. And with Pritiās determination sheāll definitely be an amazing designer.
Adolfo Sanchezās Spring/Summer 2013 collection was called āA Rose in the Jungleā. The show began with a stunning coral chiffon gown with layers of chiffon petals in the front. This was one of my favorite pieces because it was fun, flirty, sexy, and elegant all at the same time. There was also a black gown with sheer space in the front, feathers on the shoulder, with a flare at the bottom of the dress. As far as the ready to wear, stand out pieces included a red suede jacket, black shorts, and a white & black top.
Additionally, there was a cool black suede jacket that I loved that was paired with red cigarette pants. I do wish the pants wouldāve fit the model better because it kind of distracted from the overall look. Finally, I didnāt love the hair & make-up styling because it didnāt enhance the collection being that the looks didnāt flow. I most likely wouldāve done a simple bun up do and a natural beauty look with a bright lip on certain looks. But thatās the inner stylist in me so keep that in mind. Overall, the collection was superb and I look forward to seeing more from Adolfo.Ā Lastly, I truly enjoyed the Nolcha Fashion Week show and I hope that this amazing organization continues to grow.
And there it is. de la Penā¦All Pen Everything.Ā
