Dear Pennies & Pens,
This past weekend, while lounging around the house, I did what I always do on a lazy weekend which is watch movies! Iām a movie fanatic and I particularly love comedies, romantic comedies, action films, and occasionally a good drama. Lately, Iāve been watching a lot of foreign and independent films because the mainstream movies being released bore me to tears.
In essence, while scoping iTunes for a movie to watch, I came across the soon-to-be released film, āBacheloretteā. Today, I’ll be writing a Bachelorette movie review. Bachelorette stars Kirsten Dunst, Isla Fischer, Lizzy Caplan, James Marsden, and more. The film was written and directed by Leslye Headland. Bachelorette was first released this past January at the Sundance film festival and it will be released nationally in theaters this September. However, the film is currently available for purchase on iTunes.
Bachelorette is basically the story of three best friends, Regan (Kirsten Dunst), Gena (Caplan), and Katie (Fischer) who are bridesmaids in the wedding of Becky, a classmate they used to call āPig Faceā in high school. The movie takes place the night before Beckyās wedding and involves a crazy night of highness and drunken debauchery starring the bridemaids, Regan, Gena, and Katie.
First off, let me say that this movie is my definition of #BananasInPajamas. I mean itās hilarious yet shocking at the same time. Why? Because the main characters are all completely selfish and ridiculously vain and yet the movie is centered around their āfriendshipā and connection to each other. Regan is clearly the WASP girl who once had an eating disorder whoās now in her adulthood and still maintained her self-absorbed ways and yet she can be very caring and sympathetic toward her friends.
Then thereās Gena who is my definition of a full blown cokehead whoās still sleeping around with guys and unable to get over her ex. And lest we not forget Isla Fischer playing āKatieā the ādumb girlā who never seems to understand whatās going on. And lastly, thereās Becky who is seen by Regan, Gena, and Katie as the grown up āPig Faceā but itās clear that the reason Becky is getting married first is because she is sweet and selfless.
This film is everything I never expected and thatās why I loved it! I mean sure Iāve never even seen coke in real life and I honestly am terrified of the stuff but that doesnāt mean I canāt appreciate a film where half the characters are addicted to it. Bachelorette is just one of those movies you have to watch. I mean Kirsten was once upon a time in āBring It Onā so you have to give her props for being in such a raunchy film; and what about Isla who just did āConfessions of a Shopaholicā only a few years ago? Basically, this is one of the few films that allows women to be ridiculous, crazy, and just flat-out inappropriate. I read a comment on iTunes that said the movie was a combination of āBridesmaidsā and āMean Girlsā and I agree. I definitely recommend seeing this movie but be warned, itās crazy! However, you will laugh and be entertained.
And there it is. de la Penā¦All Pen Everything.Ā
