Dear Pennies & Pens,
Early this past Saturday, I attended the Ruffian show held at Lincoln Center. Ruffian is a New York based designer label and its chief designers are Brian Wolk and Claude Morais. The designers have achieved critical acclaim in addition to being the previous winners of the Fashion Group International’s rising star award.
For the Spring/Summer 2012 season, the designers decided to explore their namesake (Ruffian) which is the famous filly (female) racehorse and the society that surrounds the world of racing. In essence, the collection spoke to femininity & masculinity being that there was sharp tailoring, as well as pretty, flowing dresses.
The collection’s fabrics consisted of a mixture of silk, satin, chiffon, faille. There was a wide variety of color red, blue, yellow, green, pink, black, and white. Additionally, there were some one piece swimsuits within the collection.
My favorite pieces were the black & white pieces. They were sophisticated, yet sporty, and they could be worn to a variety of different occasions. I didn’t care much for the shade of yellow used so those were my least favorite although the yellow does add a certain “pop” element. Overall, I thought the collection was well rounded and each piece connected to the other without being a carbon copy.
And there it is. The Fashion & Style of the Pen…de la Pen.
