Dear Pennies & Pens,
This morning, I was browsing through tweets when I came across @thefashionbomb’s tweet about French African Olivier Rousteing taking over at French luxury label, Balmain. Excited to hear the news, I clicked on the link and voila!Ā The Fashion BombĀ confirmed it. Normallly, I don’t post such time sensitive fashion news but this was too awesome to ignore!
Olivier is a person of African descent leading a luxury historic brand. This is major and shows the industry is finally accepting change and diversity. Olivier is young, only 25, but he worked at Roberto Cavalli for five years and he’s been the head womenswear designer at Balmain since 2009. In essence, he’s already had some major strides in his career.
I saw the BalmainĀ collection atĀ Style.uz Art WeekĀ in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. I’ve always been a huge fan of Balmain and so I’m excited to see how Olivier develops the brand. He’s been doing a terrific job with the womenswear so let’s see how he directs the house as head designer. Please stay tuned for a report on his first collection when it debuts.
And there it is. The Fashion and Style of the Pen…de la Pen.
