Dear Pennies,
For this week’s, Tuesday’s Thoughts, I decided to feature fashion designer and style icon, Victoria Beckham. I have been a fan of Victoria since her days as Posh Spice when she wondered aloud in the Spice Girls movie, “Should I wear the little black dress, or the little black dress, or the little black dress?” Victoria has since moved on and left her Spice Girls days in the past. Victoria now owns her own fashion house which includes dresses, denim, handbags, and eyewear. I’ll admit that today was my first time visiting her site, and I must say that it is stunning!
Let me quickly say that as a fashion blogger, I visit designers’ sites all the time (both established & emerging) and you’d be surprised how difficult it is to navigate the average designer’s site. This is not the case with Victoria’s site. The font is clean and easy to read, the pictures of the collections are stunning, and the clothes & accessories themselves are well designed! For the Spring/Summer 2011 collection, the color palette was very simple but it still gives a woman options. There are lovely burnt orange pieces, the pale pink dresses, the blush toned dresses, and of course this Spring’s biggest trend, white.
I loved the Spring/Summer 2011 collection because it was chic minimalism without trying too hard. If you don’t know, minimalism is one of fashion’s biggest trends and this was largely brought on by the global recession which made shoppers realize that statement pieces weren’t budget friendly and so designers & retailers compromised by overwhelming us with minimalistic fashion that lasts more than one season. I understand the need to compromise for the consumer but in some cases, I feel like the designer or retailer isn’t being genuine.
Victoria is not one of those designers, in my opinion. In most pictures I’ve seen of her, her style is in fact chic minimalism. She usually wears simple, muted tones, and usually dresses up her style with a fierce haircut and even fiercer shoes. Boy, would I kill to raid her shoe closet, but, I digress. To me, Victoria is not your typical celebrity designer. This is a woman who takes her fashion seriously and she’s clearly assembled a design team of dedicated employees who are helping her bring her vision to life. Never have I seen a celebrity make such a real and genuine effort to enter the world of fashion.
And there it is. The Fashion and Style of the Pen…de la Pen.

Thank you so much! I spent like an hour and a half on it so I’m glad it was read with pleasure. But Victoria’s so fabulous that she’s easy to write about! LOL
